SFMOMA PARKING STRUCTURE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA
Winner of the Concrete Masonry Association Design Grand Award, this parking structure for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has a combined moment frame and concrete masonry shear wall structure. Since it is located on an extremely tight site, construction required precise material delivery and staging as well as task and trade coordination.The exterior colored masonry block blends well with the adjacent museum – offering both architectural and structural benefits.
Solid grouted CMU shear walls serve to maintain the required four-hour fire resistant separation at the lot lines. The roof features a future element exposed sculpture garden, and at the pedestrian level, windows are used to showcase the museum’s programs and current exhibits.
