SYMANTEC - CULVER CITY, CULVER CITY, CA

Symantec – Culver City is a high-tech corporate campus with two mid-rise concrete frame office buildings and an expansive 6-level parking garage. The security software leader required a unique infrastructure to handle its demanding power and data needs, as well as to support the sustainable building elements which helped achieve a LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Webcor’s was able to accommodate Symantec’s mid-construction decision to occupy only one of the buildings by successfully incorporating new design requirements into the already agressive schedule. The schedule was further complicated by the sequencing challenge of the project’s unique raised floor system which provides easy access to mechanical, electrical and data systems while increasing energy efficiency. Webcor effectively managed the floor system installation despite the added complications of several specialty areas including a metal-shielded virus laboratory and an HP Halo audio/visual conference room.

Additional sustainable features include:
  • Reduce heat island effect - the use of Sarnafil PVC white roofing has a cleaner and healthier installation process, as well as a high solar reflectance index (SRI).
  • Innovation - solar light sculptures will be installed around the site. As well as art pieces, they provide energy for the buildings.
  • Recycle content - Webcor located an existing underground culvert on-site which was crushed and reused as base for the permanent entrance road to the site.
  • Storm water runoff - a 72- storm water system will be installed to reduce natural flows in the storm water system during rain events.
  • Raised floor access system -provides 'plug & play'accessibility to mechanical, electrical and data delivery systems, and can reduce energy costs by as much as 15%.
