REP. SOLIS HOSTS 'GREENING OUR CAPITOL, GREENING OUR COMMUNITIES' PANEL





LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 -- Rep. Hilda Solis, D-Calif. (32nd CD), issued the following news release:

Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (CA-32) hosted a panel this morning entitled "Greening Our Capitol, Greening Our Communities," which addressed ways in which local governments, schools and businesses can respond to the call for sustainable business practices, including available tax advantages, access to capital, and simple efficiencies to save energy.

The panel featured The Honorable Dan Beard, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the U.S. House of Representatives, who is leading Congress' "Green the Capitol" initiative.

Solis is the author of the Green Jobs Act of 2007 (Public Law 110-140) which authorized $125 million to train workers for "green" collar jobs in the renewable energy industries.

The panel took place at the East Los Angeles Skills Center. Other speakers included: Travis Putnam, Navitas Capital; Tom Hall, Los Angeles Community College District; Jeff Schaffer, Enterprise Community Partners; Phil Williams, Webcor Builders; and Adam Winnick, Pacific Capital Group.
