The W San Diego is a 19-story poured-in-place concrete structure hotel with 261 rooms and 3+ levels of subterranean parking. Juxtaposed with the sleek contemporary design of this new hotel is a newly renovated two-story historical brick building which houses the hotel’s main bar and restaurant, as well as a roof top bar featuring lounge chairs, umbrellas and warm sand. Webcor worked with the engineer and architect to make revisions to the structure to improve constructability, implemented the use of flying forms and reduced the schedule. Other innovative ideas were incorporated into the renovation and retrofitting of the historic brick building, replacing the decaying wood structure and providing seismic integrity. |
