Webcor ICG transformed an empty warehouse in San Francisco into the California Academy of Sciences Transitional Facility. The facility temporarily housed the Academy’s exhibits, aquariums and storage tanks while Webcor completed the construction of the Academy’s new permanent facility in Golden Gate Park. The 214,000 sq ft interior includes support equipment at the basement level, public exhibit space on the first floors, and education, administration, research and collections storage facilities on floors two through six. Also included were extensive structural upgrades and design-assist of a new MEPS infrastructure. In addition, Webcor's Interior Construction division provided design-build assistance in the coordination of the life support systems for the Academy’s aquarium tanks which ensured a shortened schedule and timely move in for the Academy.
