Located at the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine Streets, the W Hollywood is a new 12-story, 305-room luxury hotel featuring the Drai’s Hollywood nightclub, the Delphine Eatery & Bar, and the Bliss Hollywood spa. Hotel amenities include the Station Hollywood bar with a 35’ movie screen, a rooftop pool, meeting space, and 3 levels of subterranean parking. The W Hollywood Residences is a 16-story, 143-unit luxury condo-minium tower with a sky bridge to the hotel.

Webcor proposed the use of high-strength, 8,000 psi shotcrete for the project’s shear wall boundary elements. Shotcrete requires less complicated formwork than other types of concrete and can be done more quickly. Working with the structural engineer, Webcor produced shotcrete test panels and gained approval for its first-ever use in the city. This innovation saved $500,000 and eliminated a month from the schedule. Also, through meticulous planning and the use of 6 placing booms, Webcor completed 22 concrete deck pours in a single month.

The W Hollywood and its neighbor the 1600 North Vine Street Apartments, a separate project on the same site, were both built concurrently by Webcor. The combined projects totaled over 2,000,000 sq ft and required over 4,000 inspections. To accommodate this enormous task, Webcor created an inspection process with dedicated personnel to manage the inspections and quality control for the two projects. The process helped Webcor achieve TCO for both the W Hollywood and 1600 Vine Street in just 29 months.

The project achieved a LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and received a 2010 GreenSite Award for its sustainable features.
