Axis is a 22-story luxury condominium tower in the heart of downtown San Jose. The 678,000-square-foot concrete structure includes 329 residential units, a 5-level parking garage, a fitness center, and a resident’s amenity level featuring a swimming pool, spa, and BBQ area.
Webcor set a precedent in San Jose by negotiating the first phased-occupancy of a high-rise residential tower in the City. By obtaining Temporary Certificates of Occupancy for the project in three phases—floors 1-11, 12-18 and 19-22—the owner was able to jump-start their marketing efforts and move-in new residents six weeks earlier than if the entire building had received TCO simultaneously.
Webcor’s expertise in structural and architectural concrete was critical in achieving the desired design aesthetic and award-winning quality within a tight budget. By self-performing the concrete work, Webcor reduced the initial schedule by 2 and ½ months. This time savings minimized the schedule impact from unforeseen challenges such as contaminated soil that was encountered during excavation.
Axis was honored as the 2008 Architectural Category Winner by the American Concrete Institute’s Northern California & Western Nevada Chapter.
