The Mark, one of San Francisco’s most prominent historic landmarks, was originally built in 1926 and was showing its age. In 1999, the owner planned an extensive interior renovation and exterior restoration to the 193,000 square-foot structure to reclaim this old jewel’s original grandeur. The hotel needed to remain open during construction, making safety and quality critical. Webcor ICG was selected by the owner to complete the renovation not only because of our proven expertise in safely working in occupied spaces, but also because we had the reputation to perform the intricate, high quality work necessary for the job.
To successfully execute the work with minimal impact to the guests, we met regularly with the hotel staff. This allowed us to plan and coordinate the construction around all hotel events and helped to keep the staff up to date, enabling them to adjust their operations as needed. Working together, we kept the project on schedule and allowed the hotel to maintain a high occupancy rate.
The project included an interior design-build renovation of all guestrooms and upgrades and replacement of electrical, life safety, plumbing, fire sprinkler and HVAC systems. A complete exterior restoration was also performed which required careful renewal of the elaborate ornamental details.
