Oracle is the world’s largest database developer and 3rd largest software vendor. After successfully completing the first phase of Oracle’s World Headquarters, Webcor was asked to construct each of the remaining phases of the entire 60 acre campus. Accommodating Oracle’s workforce of 5,500 employees, the campus includes 6 office buildings, 4 parking structures, a conference center, fitness center, and a utility substation totaling 2.9 million square feet.
The primary challenge of the project was the mitigation of pervasive mud within the site from the adjacent San Francisco Bay. Webcor engineered foundation systems to compensate for the muddy soil and also accommodated the unusual underground obstructions created by Marine World’s nearby whale aquarium tanks.
By working closely with the architect and engineer, the first parking structure was designed and located to achieve the most cost effective construction with the greatest number of stalls. Webcor fabricated the architectural precast concrete panels and structural beams on site, saving an additional 25% on each of the 4 parking structures.
