SFMOMA Expansion

+

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Expansion located in San Francisco, CA is a renovation and addition, Type I steel museum project. This project is designed by Snøhetta and EHDD Architecture. This GMP project includes a 25,000 square foot renovation of the existing museum and a 200,000 square foot addition including 10 levels above grade and one level below grade. The expansion doubles the museum’s exhibition and education space and more deeply weaves the museum into the City’s cultural fabric. The project runs contiguously along the back of the preexisting museum, allowing for a seamless integration of the two structures, and extends across an entire city block in San Francisco’s downtown. In addition to exhibition space, the project includes approximately 85,000 square feet of support space with larger and more advanced conservation facilities and an expanded library. One of the highlights of the new design is the amount of space devoted to public access allowing for pedestrians to view artwork without entering the museum’s paid areas. Webcor self-performed concrete, carpentry and building specialties. This project is LEED Gold®.
