Webcor, serving as Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Port of Oakland, is leading a multi-phase restroom renovation program within the active terminal complex at Oakland International Airport (OAK). Spanning 18,000 square feet, the renovation is strategically divided into four phases to ensure minimal disruption to passengers by staggering restroom closures across Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Baggage Claim. Webcor’s expertise in aviation construction, logistical coordination, and early site investigations is instrumental in executing this project within the constraints of an operational airport environment.
The first phase of the renovation focuses on three restrooms in Terminal 1 at Gates 3, 4, and 7. The Gate 3 men's restroom will be modernized within its current footprint, while the Gate 4 women's restroom will undergo a complete renovation and expansion. At Gate 7, an existing men's restroom will be reprogrammed into single-user, gender-inclusive family restrooms to enhance accessibility and convenience for all travelers. Subsequent phases will renovate and expand additional restrooms across both terminals, ensuring a comprehensive upgrade to the airport’s restroom facilities.
Designed for innovation, accessibility, and efficiency, the renovations introduce ADA-compliant stalls with luggage-friendly shelving, LED-lit occupancy indicators for easy stall identification, and a centralized sink area with touch-free faucets, soap dispensers, and hand dryers. The refreshed spaces also feature energy-efficient LED lighting, high-quality finishes, and sound-absorbing materials to create a calm, modern, and user-friendly atmosphere. Webcor is executing this project in close coordination with FAA and DOT requirements, the Port’s CEQA and diverse workforce goals, and various airline and facility operators, ensuring a seamless integration of upgrades within a dynamic airport setting.
