As a contractor that cares about the built environment’s impact on people and the planet, we’re responsible for staying at the forefront of the latest sustainability innovations and perspectives, says Sustainability Manager Kavita Karmarkar. “
Greenbuild’s the perfect place to not only represent Webcor as a leading green builder, but to gather ideas that will inform our work as we continue pursuing green building certifications and fulfilling environmental/social/governance (ESG) reporting requirements,” she says.
This year, we reinforced our commitment to public work by co-sponsoring Greenbuild’s Public Sector Roundtable. The sold-out event brought 100+ public sector leaders together to discuss the strategies, challenges, and innovations influencing urban climate leadership and low-carbon communities.
“The event was a great chance to spotlight our green building resume in a room full of public sector leaders while learning about the constraints, challenges, and opportunities public agencies navigate,” Kavita says. “These perspectives are especially relevant as we continue developing our portfolio of public projects.”
Greenbuild Tour: SoCal’s 3rd-Party-Verified C&D Recycling Yard
One of Greenbuild’s biggest draws is its in-depth tours of the host city’s most innovative, forward-thinking sustainable spaces. This year, Kavita joined the conference’s tour of Construction & Demolition Recycling (CDR) Inc.—a construction waste processing facility that doubles as an interior demolition subcontractor.
Currently, CDR is Southern California’s only third-party-verified construction and demolition (C&D) recycling facility.
Through careful removal of useful materials and close involvement with donation/reuse-focused organizations, CDR demolishes and diverts over 90 percent of waste from their interior demolition jobs.
